A Southbury, CT resident, Timothy (TJ) Leonard, EdD, has been an educator since the late 1990s, with his current academic position being an Assistant Professor of academic literacy and linguistics at the City University of New York (CUNY). Before he began working in higher education, Dr. Timothy Leonard attended Western Connecticut State University (WCSU), located in Danbury, CT, where he earned a doctor of education in Instructional Leadership.
WCSU’s Instructional Leadership program prepares students to understand curriculum and instruction, leadership in schools, and other issues that arise in pre-K-12 education. In the course of completing the degree program, students learn how to help teachers incorporate effective teaching practices in the classroom, while at the same time helping students reach positive achievement outcomes.
The Educational Leadership platform focuses on two major goals. The first is to prepare educators to be leaders and decision-makers in their districts as it relates to assessment (student testing) and academic curricula. The second goal involves teaching doctoral students to integrate advanced teaching practices into the classroom and school culture. These practices include but are not limited to professional development activities related to curriculum standards and technology utilization.
As is the case with all WCSU programs, the Educational Leadership program is accredited through the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). The program is also approved by the Connecticut State Department of Education and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
